Ingredients:

1 cup golden raisins
1 3/4 cups water
1/3 cup shortening
2 packages active dry yeast
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup wheat germ

Sun-Maid Back to Nature Raisin Bread Directions

  1. Combine raisins, 1 1/4 cups water and shortening. Heat to boiling. Stir until shortening melts. Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in remaining 1/2 cup warm water. Add sugar, salt, spices, and 1 cup all purpose flour, and mix well. Add raisin mixture. Gradually makes in remaining all purpose and whole wheat flours and wheat germ. Turn out onto well floured board and knead 3 minutes. Return dought to mixing bowl, and brush top of dough with oil. Cover and let rise unhtil doubled, about 1 3/4 hours. Punch down ans shape into loaf. Place in greased pan (9x5x3 inches) and brush top wit oil. let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake below oven center,on moderately hot oven (375°) for about 40 minutes, until nicely browned. Turn out onto wire rack to colo. Makes 1 large loaf.
