Ingredients

Diana's Oatmeal Carmelitas

0.5 lb light candy caramels (about 32 pieces)
5 Tbs milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
0.75 cup brown sugar, packed
0.5 tsp baking soda
0.25 tsp salt
0.75 cup margarine, melted
1 6 ounce package chocolate chips
0.5 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped

Diana's Oatmeal Carmelitas Directions

  1. Melt carmels and milk on top of double boiler.
  2. Cool slightly and set aside.
  3. Heat oven to 350°
  4. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off.
  5. In large bowl combine remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips and nuts.
  6. Press 1/2 of the crumbs in bottom of ungreased 11 x 7-inch (or 11 x 9-ibnch) square pan.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven.
  9. Sprinkle with Chocolate chips and nuts.
  10. Spread carefully with caramel mixture.
  11. Sprinkling with remaining crumb mixture.
  12. Bake 15 - -20 minutes longer or until golden brown.
  13. Chill 1 - 2 hours.
  14. Cut into bars.
