Ingredients

Strata

1 cup milk
1/2 cup chicken broth or white grape juice
3/4 loaf day old French bread, sliced thick
1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
3 Tbs olive oil
1/2 lb Gouda cheese, thinly sliced
4 med Roma tomatoes, thinly sliced
1/2 cup purchased pesto sauce
4 large eggs
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper`
1/2 cup whipping cream

Elegant Brunch Strata Directions

  1. Grease a baking dish (8 x 13- inch od 10-inch round).
  2. Combine milk and chicken broth in a bowl and dip slices in the mixture.
  3. Gently squeeze liquid from bread and place wet slice in the prepared dish.
  4. Cover bread with chopped cilantro and drizzle with olive oil,
  5. Layer 1/2 the cheese and tomato slices over the bread.
  6. Daub 1/2 the pesto on top  and repeat layers of cheese, tomato and pesto.
  7. Beat eggs and season with salt and butter.
  8. Poue evenly over the layered mixture.
  9. Pour whipping cream over the top and cover with plastic wrap.
  10. Chill overnight.
  11. Take strata out of fridge about 3 hours before serving, to bring to a room temperature.
  12. Preheat oven to 350°.
  13. Bake uncovered until puffy and browned. (50 minutes to an hour.)
