Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted |
1 teaspoon salt |
3/4 cup shortening |
6 Tablespoons water |
1 cup sugar |
2 Tablespoons flour |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
6 cups apples, pared, cored, and sliced |
3 Tablespoons butter |
1/8 cup milk |
1/4 cup sugar |
Country Apple Pie Directions
- Stir 2 cups flour and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal. Sprinkle water evenly over mixture. Stir with fork until all Flour is moistened. Gather mixture together; shape into ball. Divide in half. Roll out half the pastry on floured board, cut out the 12 inch circle; fit into 9 inch pie plate.
- Combine sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in bowl.
- Arrange half the apples in pastry lime pie plate. Sprinkle with half the sugar mixture. Repeat with remaining apples and sugar mixture.
- Dot top with butter or margarine.
- Roll out remaining pastry; Cut 12 inch circle; cut decorative advance to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Place over filling .
- Flute edges.
- For a sparkly top, brush top lightly with milk, sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake at 425° for 40 to 45 minutes.
