Ingredients
Bread Bowls
1/2 cup warm water |
1/2 cup milk |
1 large egg, room temperature |
2 Tbs butter |
1 tsp salt |
1/4 cup sugar |
3 cup all-purpose flour |
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast |
1/4 cup cornmeal for dusting the baking pan |
Basic Bread Bowl Directions
- In a small bowl beat the egg and milk.
- Place in the microwave the liquid until the milk is slighly warm. (about 40 seconds on high)
- Place the milk/egg mixture along with the other ingerdients onto your bread machine in the order directed by the manufacturer.
- Set on dough cycle.
- When the dough has completed it's cycle. place it on a floured board and cut into 4 pieces.
- Shape each piece into round balls, taking care not to overwork the dough.
- Lightly dust baking sheet with cornmeal and place the ball on a dark-colored baking sheet and cover with clean dish towel. Let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- in a small bowl, seoperate 1 egg. discarding the yolk.
- Add 1 tablespoon of watter and whisk well or until frothy.
- brush lightly over risen dough
- Place in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or the bread bowls are a golden brown.
- Remove prom pan and let cool on racks.
- Cut a circle in the top of the bowl, removing the top and hollow out the bowl, taking care not to hollow out too much.
- Add any of your favorite soup, stews or chowder and enjoy!
Notes
This recipe makes about 1 ½ pounds of dough.
