Ingredients

Salsa ingredients

16 medium tomatillo husks removed and rinsedq
6 cloves garlic, unpeeled, lightly crushed
3 Tablespoons New Mexico chilis, ground
2 teaspoons cumin, ground
2 teaspoons lime zest
2 Tablespoons lime juice
tobasco sauce to taste
salt and pepper to taste

Copycat Chipotle Tomato Tomatillo Hot Salsa Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to broil, making sure that the rack is on the top slot, about 6 ounces from the broiler.
  2. Lining a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, place the tomatillos and crushed garlic on the cookie sheet and place in the oven.
  3. Broil for about 12 minutes or the tomatillos and garlic are charred.
  4. Flip halfway through and peel the garlic.
  5. In a food processor; combine the tomatillos, garlic, ground red chilis, cumin, lime zest and juice, 1 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of the pepper.
  6. Process the mixture until smooth, and season to taste with the tobacco sauce.
  7. If desired and extra ground chilis to make it spicier. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
