16 medium tomatillo husks removed and rinsedq |
6 cloves garlic, unpeeled, lightly crushed |
3 Tablespoons New Mexico chilis, ground |
2 teaspoons cumin, ground |
2 teaspoons lime zest |
2 Tablespoons lime juice |
tobasco sauce to taste |
salt and pepper to taste |
Copycat Chipotle Tomato Tomatillo Hot Salsa Directions
- Preheat the oven to broil, making sure that the rack is on the top slot, about 6 ounces from the broiler.
- Lining a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, place the tomatillos and crushed garlic on the cookie sheet and place in the oven.
- Broil for about 12 minutes or the tomatillos and garlic are charred.
- Flip halfway through and peel the garlic.
- In a food processor; combine the tomatillos, garlic, ground red chilis, cumin, lime zest and juice, 1 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of the pepper.
- Process the mixture until smooth, and season to taste with the tobacco sauce.
- If desired and extra ground chilis to make it spicier. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
