Old-fashioned Bread
| 1 1/2 Tbs yeast |
| 1 1/2 cup warm water |
| 1/8 cup sugar |
| 3/4 tsp salt |
| 1 large egg, well beaten |
| 1/8 cup dark Karo syrup |
| 2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour |
| 1/2 cup powdered milk |
| 1/4 cup melted shortening |
Old-Fashioned Wheat Bread Directions
- Mix together yeast, warm water, and sugar in a bowl and set in a warm place.
- Add salt, egg, and karo syrup.
- Mix well.
- Add one cup of the whole wheat flour and powdered milk.
- Mix well.
- Add rest of the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, to make a soft dough. Knead dough.
- Let rise in a greaed bowl until double in size.
- Punch down and shope into loaf.
- Place in greasen pan and let rise to top of pan.
- Bake at 350° oven for over 45 minutes or until bread sounds hollow.
