Fried Okra
| 1 28 ounce bag frozen okra |
| 1 cup whole buttermilk |
| 2 large egg whites |
| 2 cups yellow corn meal |
| 1/4 cup all purpose flour |
| 1 1/2 tsp sea salt |
| 1 tsp pepper |
| 1 tsp granulated garlic powder |
| vegetable oil (For frying) |
Fried Okra Directions
- Add oil to a large skillet, enough to fry okra in.
- Adjuts heat to medium-high.
- Place the thawed okra in a colander and rinse them under some warm water.
- Allow all the water to drain off the okra and place them in a bowl.
- Pour the buttermilk and egg whites in a bowl, mix well.
- In a seperate bowl, add the cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, mixing well.
- Place the bowl with the okra next to the buttermilk and cornmeal mixtures.
- Place some of the into the buttermilk mixture.
- Coat well in buttermilk. (the buttermilk mixture will be thick, you'll need to shake them to get the extra buttermilk to fall off.)
- Then toss the okra in the cornmeal mixture. Besure to coat them well.
- Place the battered okra onto a pan or plate.
- Continue to do this until all of the okra is battered.
- When the oil is hot, start adding the okra to the oil, being sure tonot overcrowd the pan.
- Allow them to cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- Remove the cooked okra and place them onto a paper-toweled plate
- Serve while still warm
