Ingredients

| 2 cups flour |
| 3 Tbs cocoa |
| 1/2 tsp salt |
| 1 cup dates |
| 1 tsp soda |
| 1 cup boiling water |
| 1/2 cup butter or margarine |
| 1/2 cup shortening |
| 1 cup sugar |
| 2 large eggs |
| 1 tsp vanilla |
| 1 cup walnuts, chopped |
| 1 6 ouncs pkg chocolate chips |
Chocolate Date Torte Directions
- Sprinkle soda over chopped dates and pour boiling water over them. Let stand until luke warm. Cream shortening, sugar and add eggs. Sift flour, cocoa, salt and add alternately with date mixture. Add vanilla and pour into pan.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top and bake at 350° 25 to 30 minutes. Bake in 9x13 pan or larger. serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.
