Ingredients

Chocolate Carmelita Bars

1 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 Tbs water
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 12.5 ounce jar (1 cup) caramel ice cream topping
1/4 cup flour

Chocolate Carmelita Bars Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°
  2. Grease a 9 x 13- inch baking pan.
  3. Combine the oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, margarine, water,  baking soda, and salt.
  4. Reserve 1 cup of the mixture.
  5. Press the remaining mixture on the bottom of a pan.
  6. Bake 10-12 minutes or until light brown; cool 10 minutes
  7. Top with mixed nuts and chocolate chips.
  8. Mix caramel topping and 1/4 cup flour until smooth.
  9. Drizzle over the chocolate  pieces to within 1/4 inch of pan edge.
  10. Sprinkle with reserved oat mixture.
  11. Bake an additional 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Cool completely
  13. Makes 32 bars
