Chocolate Carmelita Bars
1 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats |
1 1/2 cups flour |
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed |
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted |
1 Tbs water |
1/2 tsp baking soda |
1/4 tsp salt |
1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped |
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips |
1 12.5 ounce jar (1 cup) caramel ice cream topping |
1/4 cup flour |
Chocolate Carmelita Bars Directions
- Heat oven to 350°
- Grease a 9 x 13- inch baking pan.
- Combine the oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, margarine, water, baking soda, and salt.
- Reserve 1 cup of the mixture.
- Press the remaining mixture on the bottom of a pan.
- Bake 10-12 minutes or until light brown; cool 10 minutes
- Top with mixed nuts and chocolate chips.
- Mix caramel topping and 1/4 cup flour until smooth.
- Drizzle over the chocolate pieces to within 1/4 inch of pan edge.
- Sprinkle with reserved oat mixture.
- Bake an additional 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool completely
- Makes 32 bars
