Ingredients

Buttermilk Syrup

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp Karo syrup
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla

Buttermilk Syrup Directions

  1. Combine the butter, sugar, buttermilk, and karo syrup.
  2. Bring to a boil in an extra-large pan.
  3. Remove from the heat and stir in the baking soda and vanilla.
  4. Mixture will fizz to twice the size.
  5. Let set, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve while hot.

Notes

If you don't have buttermilk on hand, substitute 1/4 tablespoon lemon juice plus milk to equal 1/2 cup.

Let stand 5 minutes.
