Ingredients

Bread

1 Tbs dry yeast
2 cup hot water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup cold water
7 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup warm water
2 Tbs shortening
2 tsp salt
1/2 cup dry milk

Whole Wheat Bread Directions

  1. Mix yeast and warm water; set aside
  2. Pour hot water over shortening, sugar, and salt.
  3. Mix dry milk with 1 cup whole wheat flour; add hot water mixture and 1 cup cold water, then add yeast mixture.
  4. Add 6 - 7 more cups of the whole wheat flour.
  5. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let rise to almost double.
  7. Time as follows: let rise 40 minutes, punch down, let rise 20 minutes, punch down, let rise 20 minutes, punch down.
  8. Shape into 3 loaves and place in 3 small greased bread pans.
  9. Allow to rise until double.
  10. Bake at 375° for 40 - 45 minutes.
  11. Makes 3 loaves.
