Bread Machine Bagels
1 cup warm ware (110°F/45°C |
1 1/2 tsp salt |
2 Tbs white sugar |
3 cups bread flour |
1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast |
3 Qts boiling water |
3 Tbs white sugar |
1 Tbs cornmeal |
1 large egg white |
3 Tbs Poppy seed (optional) |
Bread Machine Bagels Directions
- Place the water, salt, sugar, flour, and yeast in your bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer.
- Selet the dough setting and start.
- When the machine beeps for adding ingredients, ad it then (i.e. cinnamon and raisins, blueberries, etc.)
- When the cycle is complete, let the dough rest on a lightly floured surface for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough and cut into 6 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a long thin rope and pinch together ends.
- Let dough rise for at least 1 hour
- In a large pot bring 2 quarts of water to a boil.
- Stir in 3 tablespoons of sugar.
- Sprinkle an ungreased cookie sheed with cornmeal.
- Carefully add the bagels to the boiling water, boiling them for one minute, then turning them on the other side.
- Drain briefly on a clean towel or paper towels.
- Arrange boiled bagles on a cookie sheet
- Glaze the tops of the bagles with egg white and if desired, sprinklr a topping over the tops. (i.e, poppy seed, carmelized onion, cheese, sesame seed.)
- Bake in preheated 375° oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until they are lightly browned.
Notes
you may need to increase the water to 1 1/8 cups.
Some have suggesttid adding items like Asiago cheese to the bread dough too.
If you double the recipe, you will need to use a stand mixer.
