Toffee Bars
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour |
1 cup sugar |
1 cup butter or margarine, softened |
1 tsp vanilla extract |
1 large egg, separated |
1/2 cup walnuts, finely chopped |
Toffee Bars Directions
- Make this recipe 2 hours before serving or earlier in the day
- Preheat the oven to 275°
- Grease a 15 1/2 x10 1/2 inch jellyroll pan.
- Into a large bowl, measure all ingredients except egg white and walnut's.
- With a mixer, at low speed, beat ingredients at low speed just until blended, occasionally scraping the bowl with a rubber spatula.
- Increase speed to medium, beat until well mixed.
- Pat dough evenly into pan,
- In cup, beat egg white slightly; brush over top of dough and sprinkle with walnuts.
- Bake 1 hour 10 minutes, or until golden.
- Immediately, cut into 12 strips, then cut each strip into 4 pieces to make 48 bars in all.
- Remove bars from pan to cool on a wire rack.
- Store in tightly covered container.
- Makes 4 dozen bars
