Ingredients

Fried Okra

1 28 ounce bag frozen okra
1 cup whole buttermilk
2 large egg whites
2 cups yellow corn meal
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp granulated garlic powder
vegetable oil (For frying)

Fried Okra Directions

  1. Add oil to a large skillet, enough to fry okra in.
  2. Adjuts heat to medium-high.
  3. Place the thawed okra in a colander and rinse them under some warm water.
  4. Allow all the water to drain off the okra and place them in a bowl.
  5. Pour the buttermilk and egg whites in a bowl, mix well.
  6. In a seperate bowl, add the cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, mixing well.
  7. Place the bowl with the okra next to the buttermilk and cornmeal mixtures.
  8. Place some of the into the buttermilk mixture.
  9. Coat well in buttermilk. (the buttermilk mixture will be thick, you'll need to shake them to get the extra buttermilk to fall off.)
  10. Then toss the okra in the cornmeal mixture. Besure to coat them well.
  11. Place the battered okra onto a pan or plate.
  12. Continue to do this until all of the okra is battered.
  13. When the oil is hot, start adding the okra to the oil, being sure tonot overcrowd the pan.
  14. Allow them to cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  15. Remove the cooked okra and place them onto a paper-toweled plate
  16. Serve while still warm
