Ingredients

Chipotle Refried Beans

1 pound pinto beans
1/2 cup bacon drippings
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups warm water

Chipotle Refried Beans Directions

  1. Wash beans thoroughly in cold water and drain.
  2. Add lukewarm water and salt.
  3. Cook in a deep pot for about 2 hors or until the beans are tender.
  4. Stir frequently.
  5. In a large skillet, heat the bacon drippings over medium high heat.
  6. Drain the beans, reserving the liquid.
  7. Add one large spoonful of cooked beans to the hit oil and mash down.
  8. Add a teaspoon of the reserved pot liquid and stir.
  9. Repeat until all the beans are mashed.
  10. Add liquid as needed until you get the right thickness.
