Ingredients

BBQ Beans

2 Tbs olive oil
1/2 large onion, chopped
3/4 cup green pepper, chopped
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
3 large cloves garlic, chopped
8 ounces hot Italian sausage, removed from casing
2 28 ounce can baked beans (Bush's preferred)
3/4 cup bbq sauce
1 tbs spicy brown or Creole mustard
1 Tbs cider vinegar
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp creole seasoning
1 tbs molasses

Baked Beans Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil in a medium heat.
  2. Add onions and peppers, cooking until soft.
  3. Season with salt and pepper and add the garlic.
  4. Cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Crumble the sausage into the vegetables and cook , breaking up the meat as it cooks.
  6. Cook until pink is gone.
  7. Drain some of the liquid off of each bean can making sure there is just enough to cover the beans.
  8. Pour the can of beans into the vegetables and sausage.
  9. Lower the heat to medium-low and add the remaining ingredients.
  10. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  11. Can be reheated.
